There Are Still Good People
Yesterday was an interesting day at work for me.
To start this story I should probably tell you that I work at FatCats as a CSR. I meet and talk to hundreds of people every week. It has come to the point when I usually know what kind of day I will have at work just based on what day of the week it is.
Well yesterday I woke up not feeling all too well because I stayed up too late and had to much junk food the night before and I knew that I was going to have a long day at work ahead of me. It was Tuesday which meant that all of our movies were only $5. Knowing this I got ready for work honestly not looking forward to it for one reason.
People are rude.
And on $5 Tuesday, people seem to be a whole new leve of rude.
I can not tell you how many times I have had people yell at me, or call me names, or tell me that they hope I get fired, or are just rude in general. And it is all usually because of things that I have no control over such as prices, or the fact that we are busy, or that our system went down. (Yes because I chose to make my computer crash during the middle of a rush.) There have been so many times where I physically I have to hold back the tears and just stand there and let them yell at. Or where I have to keep myself from yelling back at them.
Well yesterday was no different. When I got to work I was assigned to be on a Concessions register and I knew that my day just got that much harder. Concessions usually has the longest lines and that is where people seem to be the meanest. I tried to be positive and hope that it would be different. The day started off fine. We were busy, which was to be expected. Some people were short with me and of course there were people that complained about prices or how we don't offer certain things but I just smiled at them and tried to help them out as quickly and as politely as possible. I still did not feel 100% and to make matters worse, I had a few things happen at work such as dropping a whole bag of popcorn on the ground that made me feel even more defeated. Yeah that was not fun. By 1 o'clock I was ready to just go home. I was mentally and physically exhausted and I was done talking to people for the day. But I still tried to have a good attitude.
During one of the breaks inbetween rushes, I was folding some more cardboard trays so we would be stocked up for the next rush. A woman walked up to my station and I put a smile on my face and went over and helped her. She seemed to be by herself and only ordered a small popcorn and a drink. I handed her her items and expected her to walk away but instead she pushed her reciept back across the counter. This wasn't an uncommon thing to happen because people often gave their reciepts back so I could throw it away for them, but this time was different. This time there was something written on the back. I picked it up to look at it and this is what I saw.
I was in shock.
I quickly looked back up at her and all I could say was thank you. This kind stranger completely changed my day. No, the rest of my day was not perfect. But her kindness had such an impact on me.
Later when I was telling my dad what happened, I told him that I don't know if she could tell that I was having a not-so good day or what, but she made it so much better.
I went to work yesterday morning thinking about all of the rude and mean people I woudl have to deal with, but I left work that evening thinking about how there are still good and kind people out there! There is good in every single day!
So to whoever this lady is, thank you. And may God Bless You.
