Country or City?
I used to say y'all. I mean I still do occasionally, but I used to only say y'all. I'm from Arizona. I mean yes we do have cowboys and ranchers so people do say y'all down here, but I was never one of them. Sometimes I think I am a city slicker trying to be country but who really just looks stupid trying. I grew up listening to a wide variety of music, which I still do, but I have always had a soft spot for country. I love trucks. I spent many summers on a ranch down in Southern Utah (I specify that I was there for family reunions. I never worked on the ranch). I fish. I was a four year member of the FFA. I competed in Horse Judging, Floriculture, and Agriscience fairs. I grew corn and potatoes, along with several other things, down at my high school land lab. I even had a school issued tractors license. I love camping and nature in general. I am not against hunting, although I never have and probably never will go hunting. I've shot guns. I've built fires. I've swam in rivers, creeks, lakes, etc. I have distinct memories of these little cowgirl boots that we had growing up and me trying to shove my foot into them even when it was very obvious that I had out grown them. I've gone horse back riding. I still listen to country music. I own flannel and a Real Tree hat. I love shows like Swamp People and Duck Dynasty. I have Christmas ornaments that are little antlers. My family, mainly my mom, call me "white trash" (she says it with love and to be funny but I think she means it a little but I don't really mind). And I chose to go to school in Idaho.
But I like dressing up occasionally. I enjoy long showers. I am a fan of indie/alternative music. I would be just fine never riding a horse again (it's a fear thing). I hardly ever say y'all anymore and if I do I usually regret it immediately. I like going to get my nails and hair done. I like that there is a Wal-Mart and a Target on basically every corner. I like window shopping at the mall, because let's face it, I don't have the money to buy anything.
But I guess those things don't really make me city do they? But I'm not really country am I? If I had to choose one that I would rather be, I would choose country. But for now, I guess I am a mixture of both. I kind of go through phases of being one more then the other, but I am never fully country or fully city. Maybe that's a good thing.
