Suggestions?
I am someone who loves to read. Always have, always will. Yet the older I gotten, the less I have read. I mean that in the sense of I don't find myself reading over a five-thousand pages in just over two months like I used to. I know that part of it has to do with the fact that I have just gotten busier the older I get, but I think there are other reasons too.
I ran into this problem the summer before my senior year. I ran out of books. I have found that I have either read or had no interest in reading almost every single book in my entire house (I say almost because my siblings/parents probably have books hidden away that I would enjoy reading). I would just go buy new books like I did all growing up, but let's be honest, books are expensive. And I know there is an obvious choice of just going to the library, using that library card that has been sitting in my wallet untouched, and checking out books. But I have this "crazy" thing....I mean I have almost like a system for lack of a better word. I am very particular in the kinds of books that I buy and it usually takes me awhile to decide if I even want. Honestly, I can spend HOURS in bookstores. I could probably spend all day just deciding if a certain book is even worthy to have a place in my collection. I don't want to just read any ol' book. I want to know that this is something that I will enjoy before I spend $20+ on it. So when I was in elementary school, middle school, and even part of high school, I was very particular about the books I bought. Usually it was some Nicholas Sparks or Laurlene McDaniel book. It had romance and drama and it was always a safe go-to.
But as I've gotten older, I have realized that I enjoy reading a completely different kinds of books. Now more then ever, I find myself searching for more religious and uplifting books. The LDS section is the first place I look, and Deseret Book is definitely one of my favorite stores. But I still don't buy anything. I don't know what books are going to be the best. I own things like Consider the Blessings by Thomas S. Monson, Let it Go by Chris Williams, and even Your Happily Ever After by Dieter F. Uchtdorf and I love all of them. I just can't bring myself to buy more, especially if I do not know who the author is.
So this is where you come in.
What are some of your favorite books? (Specifically something that you would find at like Deseret Book and even more specifically something that is non-fiction)
What books would you suggest for someone like me who wants to know if the book is going to be good before I even read it?
