Nature Heals My Soul
I think one of the reasons I love Idaho so much is because of the nature. I had visited Idaho once before, after I had already decided to move there though, and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I already loved it! I didn't really know what to expect, except potatoes of course, but it certainly did not disappoint! Let me tell you, if you have never visited Idaho, you need to! I love it and everywhere I been so far is so beautiful!
For example, my apartment faces west, so the sunset is clearly visible from my front door. One of my favorite things to do, when the weather is nice enough, is to stand out on the balcony/landing in front of my apartment and watch the sun set and just soak it all in.
I think that is my favorite thing to do. Soaking it all in. I'm not just saying that about sunsets though. I love taking the time to soak in nature and the beauty that is found there in general. Whether it be a sunset, or watching the rain, or staring out from the top of a mountain, I love looking at nature.
I've been watching these documentaries lately, I have a secret addiction to documentaries, and they have all been about nature. Actually that's a lie. One was called Abandoned America and it was all about towns in the United States that have been abandoned why they were abandoned. It was a actually really interesting. Anyways, I like the nature-y ones. I watched this one that ended up being about a couple who were living in the Idaho wilderness for a year. The things that they saw and filmed really made me miss Idaho, but not just that, it made me miss nature.
Don't get me wrong, Arizona is beautiful and has plenty of nature to go around, but it is different. I love the cacti, tumbleweeds, haboobs and things like that most days, but I am not as willing to go spend my time in it when it is 100 degrees outside by 9am.
When I think back, I have always loved camping and spending my time in the forest and looking at the stars and fishing and playing in rivers. I have even enjoyed spending my time on the ranch in Southern Utah.
I'm not saying that I would want to go live in the wilderness for a year, but I wouldn't mind settling down somewhere a little more remote. Someplace that has beautiful sunsets, because let's be honest I will probably not be waking up for too many sunrises.
Honestly, I find it very interesting and slightly funny that I say that now, because I always said that I wanted to stay in Arizona. I always said that I wouldn't want to move anywhere else. Now that I've been away from home, and have come back, I find myself longing for somewhere smaller. Somewhere slower pace. Somewhere where I can do all my deep thinking with plenty of space.
See I think that's one of the reasons I love nature so much. I mean I'm not one to go hike a mountain every chance I get, but I like being out in nature because I really think it helps heal my soul. As you already know, I am an over-thinker, so having all that time and space to just think, even if I don't come up with an solutions, it helps relieve my stress.
Now I am making all of these connections to nature and the different things that I like to do that relieve my stress. Like how arranging flowers is a HUGE stress reliever for me, or how I absolutely LOVE the smell of wood and rain and playing in the rain. It is the natural things that bring me more inner peace.
Interesting.
It's also interesting the different turns that this post has taken.
So yeah maybe I like nature. Maybe you should try it out sometime. I'm not saying that you need to go hike the Grand Canyon or go white water rafting, but take a book and spend 20 minutes reading outside. Take a walk around a park or something. Go star gazing. Or even just go play out in the rain. That's what I would do anyways.
